Tourism has become a great source of foreign exchange earning in Bangladesh. Now-a-days it plays an important role to create employment opportunities. The tourism sector in Bangladesh has been gradually growing and also new destination site are up coming. There is a great potentiality in the development of the tourism sector by applying new policies and strategies.  Tourism industry involves large number of people various aspect of different socio- economic backgrounds. The sector have different needs, tests, attitudes, expectations and behavioral patterns. The Tourism and Hospitality Management department of The People’s University has an ideal place to learn, educate with practical classes. We aim to provide standard tourism education for future generation.  We shall provide quality education for undergraduates who are interested to be involve in airlines business, tour operators, tourist guide, also many other site of job markets as well. Our goal is to create smart and dynamic students who can face the challenges in the tourism field. Youngsters are welcome to take part in meeting the growing demand of the tourism industry and ensuring a brighter future.

Overview

One of the most prestigious and exciting professions, a Career with combination of Dignity, Style and Elegance, to become world class Hotelier, The People’s University of Bangladesh is introducing a 4 years Bachelor (Hons.) degree course. Total 140 credits (39 courses of 3 credits + six lab + two seminars +one Technical visit + Industrial Attachment + one dissertation of 6 credits = 39*3+8 +3 + 3 + 3 + 6 = 140) along with six months 8 Semester program including 4 months industrial attachment at any reputed hotel, motel, airlines, travel agency or any service industry, so that the students will have practical job also experience knowledge. Duration of each semester will be 6 months. At the end of 8th semester, there will be a dissertation on the basis of the industrial attachment.

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management has set up the following missions to reach the above-mentioned vision:

  • To prepare students with necessary skills/knowledge as successful professionals in leadership positions
  • To encourage lateral thinking in the students and curiosity so they can solve complex business problems
  • To educate students entrepreneurship and transdisciplinary knowledge while emphasizing ethics and social responsibility
  • To engage the students in research work, and make them recognize the importance of lifelong learning for the development of the country

Vision

The Department of tourism and hospitality management, The People’s University of Bangladesh, strives to becoming global partner in tourism and hospitality sectors through achieving excellence in teaching, research, innovation and community service to ensure sustainable growth in entrepreneurship, businesses and economy of the country.

Objective

The general objective of the department is to provide need-oriented education with up-to-date knowledge in tourism and hospitality management to endow the students with developed knowledge and skills.

  • Research and exploration in business and economics with ethical and moral values

Program Learning Outcome (PLO)

By the end of this B.Sc. (Honors) in Tourism and Hospitality Management program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge, theories, principles, processes and procedures of the main two areas of the program: tourism and hospitality
  • Exercise and prepare food and beverage menus; communicate and interact guests; evaluate and appreciate stakeholders of the tourism destination
  • Apply analytical and critical thinking abilities in order to tackle conceptual, qualitative, and quantitative challenges in the hospitality and tourism business
  • Communicate and interact effectively and clearly, and express business ideas, data, and results in written, oral, and interactive presentations
  • Utilize and practice an entrepreneurial mindset in order to make challenging business   decisions with current business technologies
  • Apply and exercise the impact of the professional solutions in socio-cultural and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development
  • Engage themselves in authentic research work, and recognize the importance of lifelong learning for sustainable development
  • Apply security, law, and ethical principles and make a commitment to professional ethics, risk management, responsibilities, and social norms

Eligibility for Admission

Students who have any of the following qualifications may apply for the admission to B.Sc. (Honors) in Tourism and Hospitality Management program:

  • Students who have passed SSC, and HSC, or equivalent public examinations with at least two 2nd divisions, or minimum GPA 2.5 in each (5.00 scale) may apply for admission. Students who have minimum 2.00 in any one of SSC, or HSC, and a total of GPA 6.00 may also apply.
  • For English medium students, minimum 5 subjects in “O” level, and 2 subjects in “A” level examinations are required. At least Grade B, or GPA 4.0 in four subjects out of the seven subjects, and at least Grade C, or GPA 3.5 in the remaining three subjects (A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, and E=1).
  • The children of freedom fighters with a total of GPA 5.0 in both SSC, and HSC, or in equivalent public examinations may apply for admission with a copy of the Freedom Fighter Certificate issued by the Government.
